Well, it has been three years since I've added anything to my story, so here we go. 2002 was a good year as John and Junior raced only at East Bay Raceway Park and finished up sixth in points for the year. We didn't tear anything up too bad but I did sell my pavement car back to Taylor Andrews. I didn't make all the Races that year but we made the most of them. My son David ran his go cart till the end of the 2003 season, then we sold the cart as he turned eight years old and could no longer compete in the class because of his age. We did have a lot of fun though.
We all lost a friend at East Bay in a tragic accident. Ron Laney was killed during the 2002 Winter Nationals. Ron was a true racer and friend and we all miss him very much.
2003 was also a great run for the American Drilling team again running 95% of the races at East Bay and winding up forth in points. Again we managed to be lucky enough not to tear up anything major except for blowing both our engines within 20 minutes of each other at a practice session before the King of the 360 Winter Nationals at East Bay which took us out of competition for that event.
2004 we made every race at the Bay although there weren't many 360 races scheduled and we lost about 4 races to weather. We managed to pull a second place finish in the points. John Knight, Junior, Phil, Pam and I ran a limited sprint for Danny Martin for several races since Danny was running USCS up north and Big Danny let me run his car. We had four seconds and a third place finish with the car until they took the car back. We then sat idle for about a month and a half until we converted one of our 360's into a limited. I decided to dismantle the car and pickle the engine as we all agreed as a team that running a limited sprint car hurt the 360 class.
I was warned by several fellow drivers about that and all I wanted to do was race. They were right so I found out the hard way. It cost just as much to race a limited as it does a full sprint for a hell of a lot less money. Brian Maddox and I had some real great races in 04 as we battled each other back and forth all year long. We have a mutual respect for each other that only racers have.
Here we go in 2005! Former teammate Sport Allen and I have joined forces again and we are going to run all of the races at EastBay and select races on pavement with the TBARA and USCS. My dad bought out all of Taylors pavement stuff and we got Sport his own trailer. The 42 and 42X ride again. It should be a heck of a season and I'll keep you updated on our race results on the website message board.
See ya at the races and thanks to all our fans and friends,
Paulie Milum
